TriMet Is Proving To Be the Way to Go

Portland’s mass-transit system, already hailed as a model for the nation, is growing in popularity as gas prices continue to rise.

In May 2008, TriMet’s buses and MAX light-rail trains reported record ridership – an average of 2,064,800 rides a week, 4.4 percent higher than a year earlier. Much of the surge occurred during morning and evening rush hours, up 11.2 percent and 10.2 percent, respectively.

In a separate report, TriMet said a growing number of bicyclists are bringing their bikes aboard MAX trains, resulting in some crowded conditions.
