The effects of inflation on food prices are in evidence at the Portland Farmers Market.

To blame are the rising costs of fuel and grain.

Yet The Oregonian reported that sales appeared to be brisk on the opening day for the 2008 season, April 5, when 117 of the market’s 147 stalls were occupied.

Vendors have reserved all of the stalls for later in the growing season. In fact, there’s a waiting list among growers who want space at the market.
