Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski convened a forum near Beaverton on Aug. 27 to assess Oregon’s energy capacity and energy needs, now and in the future. According to The Oregonian newspaper in Portland, about 175 people attended, including representatives of the business community, energy suppliers, environmental organizations and consumer groups.

The governor said the state must act quickly to formulate public policy on the energy issue, and he said he will appoint a policy group to lead that effort: the Oregon Planning and Energy Council – “or, he chuckled, OPEC.”
