Portland-based Mercy Corps is shipping emergency aid including water, fuel, medical supplies and hygiene kits to the southern provinces of Iraq where recent violence has created a humanitarian crisis.

Mercy Corps also plans to assist with rebuilding infrastructure once stability returns to the region.
