Hillsboro Hosts Oregon International Air Show
Published Mar 21, 2008

The annual Oregon International Air Show has been taking off each August for the past two decades at Hillsboro Airport. Attendance at the inaugural event in 1988 was 65,000, and the crowd in 2007 surpassed 90,000.
The main attraction at the 2007 show was the Navy’s famed Blue Angels precision team of FA-18 Hornets.
The 2008 Oregon International Air Show is scheduled for Aug. 23.
To the south, in McMinnville, there’s another aviation-related attraction: the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, home of the famed Spruce Goose.
The largest wooden airplane ever built was constructed for eccentric aviator Howard Hughes between 1942 and 1947.
Hughes wanted the “flying boat” to be a supply and personnel trans-Atlantic carrier during World War II, but it was flown only once – on Nov. 2, 1947, for about one minute in Long Beach, Calif.
