How sweet it is: The Portland Rose Festival is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2007.

The theme of the event from May 31 through June 10 will be a tribute to Portland’s history, culture and community. About 70 scheduled activities include a Starlight Parade, Grand Floral Parade, concert and queen’s coronation.

Around 2 million people attend the festival annually, generating an estimated $80 million for the region’s economy.

Portland, home of the famed International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park, is nicknamed the City of Roses.
